Project 3: Animation

Final Statement

I actually really enjoyed this project. Being in the film department at CU I have created lots of films with plot lines and stories that I create for myself. After reading the syllabus for this class and seeing that this project (project 3) was a video project I was vey excited to try and combine the filmmaking process I have learned over the last 3.5 years with digital art of some kind. When we were assigned this animation project I was really excited to do something different from the typical films I make. I have never really experimented with animation before but one of my film professors here is a brilliant animator and has been a major contributor to the world of animation. He specializes in stop motion which I have talked to him about in the past. When this was presented as an option for this project I had to do it. It took me a while to come up a plot line of some sort but after doing some research online I really liked the idea of using M&Ms for the stop motion. I then tried to think of things I could do for the actual stop motion that wasn't extremely complicated and I was talking to my dad on the phone and he reminded me of the games and pictures I use to draw as a child. I knew I could create some seasons type of animation considering halloween just pasted and christmas is now on the horizon. I really liked that idea so I created the halloween to christmas to spring to summer type of thing. I then really liked the ball of colors as a transition piece to the game of slither and then I wanted to do brick breaker since that was a game I use to play all the time as a child. I really enjoyed making this project although it took a really long time and a lot of storyboarding to make sure all of the M&Ms were placed correctly for each picture. Then I put every photo onto a single keyframe in Animate to create the final composition. I am really proud of the way it came out considering its my first stop motion animation and this project has actually made me want to take the animation class within the film department here.
